Bisphenol A (BPA) continues to receive a lot of coverage in the press. As of September of this year, Canada has declared BPA to be a toxic substance. BPA is primarily used to make plastics and at least 8 billion pounds are used by manufacturers each year. Research has shown BPA to be endocrine disruptor, which means that introduction of it into our body can lead it to mimic the body’s own hormones. Previously determined safety levels for humans are now being questioned. The best approach to BPA exposure is to limit it as much as you can and this requires you to arm yourself with information so that you can be an educated shopper. Nearly all canned food containers have BPA in the can lining and manufacturers are phasing out the use of BPA in food and beverage containers by implementing substitute packaging. This report tells us how companies are responding to this critical issue by identifying corporations who are leaders in seeking and implementing BPA substitutes. When you are shopping for groceries, look at the companies who have an A or B grade on this list and support their efforts in testing and implementing substitute packaging.
