As we age there are distinct changes in the composition of our intestinal microflora (bacteria that is normally present in our intestines). Overgrowth of organisms that are normally present in the GastroIntestinal (GI) tract can be a problem especially when combined with changes in diet and digestive physiology. As GI function declines, there is a decline in cellular immunity, because an important part of your immune function is lymph tissue that resides in the gut (gut associated lymphoid tissue – GALT).

On this last day of May 2011 – I thought we would pay tribute to May being Healthy Vision Month. As we age, our eyes undergo normal aging changes which cause a decrease in sharpness of vision and focusing power. When you start to notice that it is harder for you to read fine print – it is important that you schedule an appointment with an optometrist so that you can have your eyes properly examined.
